This project aims to ensure the accurate alignment of large-scale utility network data across hundreds of municipalities. Given that the existing data was outdated, the objective was to update it to match a newly refined base map, enhancing spatial accuracy and consistency across all networks. To achieve this, an automated process was designed using FME to minimize manual effort while maintaining high precision, integrity and efficiency. FME’s flexibility allows for standardized procedures to be applied across all datasets, which are stored in an ArcGIS enterprise database, ensuring consistent handling of everything from nodes to network lines. The core technique used is rubbersheeting, a method that adjusts the data by rotating, scaling, and translating it to align with the updated map. This streamlined and precise approach ensures that the utility networks are accurately mapped, up-to-date, and ready for future management and optimization.
